Co-Parent Coaching
What is Co-Parent Coaching?
Co-Parent Coaching is valuable when a couple is either divorced or separated and are having a hard time in their co-parenting relationship. Coaching is focused on finding solutions to problems and resolutions to continuing conflict that might be left over from unhappy relationships or marriages.
The emphasis is always on what is in the best interest of the children and sessions are focused on moving the parents from adversaries with one another to becoming advocates for their children; from an uneasy coalition to a positive parenting alliance
Can You Go to Court for Me?
Ms. Wheeler tries to avoid appearing in court and/or writing affidavits on behalf of either parent. Typically when she is subpoenaed to appear in Family Court she will attempt to avoid it. Usually when she goes to court on behalf of one parent, it usually results in a termination of the coaching relationship because she can no longer be perceived to be neutral.
There is a separate charge for court appearances: $200 per hour plus travel time, payable by the party who subpoenas me. For writing affidavits, the charge is a minimum of $175 payable prior to the delivery of the affidavit.
How is Co-Parent Coaching Different from Counseling?
Counseling focuses on resolving inner conflicts within each individual and seeing how that plays itself out in the relationship. Counseling tends to take longer in that often inner conflicts are not as obvious as the outer conflicts. Usually co-parent coaching is not confidential.
How is Co-Parent Coaching Different from Parent Coordination?
Parent Coordinators are typically appointed or agreed to by the couple with the involvement of attorneys, Judges and/or GAL. Co-Parent Coaching can be or might not be involved with the legal system. Co-Parent Coaching is usually voluntary. Click here to download a chart to learn about how Co-Parent Coaching differs from Parent Coordination.
